Winterguard Places 2nd at WGAZ State Championships
March 27, 2010
The Winterguard placed 2nd at the WGAZ Circuit Championships. This year's show was entitled "Adventures in Flight" and tracked flight on the radar screen floor mat and through the multiple layers of space.
The fifteen performing members wowed the audience and judges with their excellent performance moving up from a 3rd place ranking going into championships to their 2rd place finish in the Scholastic A National class. The Scholastic A National class is for local Arizona units who also compete on the national level at WGI regionals. The WGI Phoenix Regional was held at Highland High School on Saturday March 13 in which Highland's winterguard placed 5th against units from California, Texas and Arizona.

Wind Ensemble Played at 2010 AMEA Conference

The Highland Wind Ensemble was selected by the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association to perform at the 2010 Arizona Music Educator Association State In-Service Conference on Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Mesa Convention Center. This performance was an honor and a recognition of the quality of the Wind Ensemble's music.

ABODA State Marching Band Championships
November 14, 2009
The marching band competed in the ABODA State Marching Band Championships at Phoenix College. The band won 1st place in Division I with a score of 83.90.
ABODA State Marching Band Festival
November 7, 2009
The marching band participated in the ABODA State Marching Band Festival at Glendale Community College. The band received a superior with distinction (which means that all judges rated them superior) with a score of 90.75. The band received captions for Auxiliary, Percussion, Visual Performance, and Music Performance.
ASU Band Day
October 24, 2009
The band competed in the ASU band day in Sun Devil Stadium. They were awarded first place in Division I and 2nd place overall. They received captions for Drum Majors and Visual Effect. A video of their performance is available.
Golden Alliance Tournament of Gold at Vista Murrieta High School
October 10, 2009
Fall Tour (October 9-11) included participation in the Golden Alliance Tournament of Gold at Vista Murrieta High School in Murrieta California. Our marching band competed against the best marching band programs in Southern California and learned a great deal about what it takes to be a great marching band. The band finished in 5th place with a score of 64.85.
Rainer Marching Classic
October 3, 2009
The marching band participated in the Rainer Marching Classic at Mesquite High School. Highland's marching band received 1st place with a score of 83.2. We received caption awards in Music and General Effect.
Lionhearts Invitational
September 26, 2009
The marching band participated in the Mountain Pointe Lionhearts Invitational. The marching band was Grand Champion of the invitational, scoring an 81.0 (Superior Rating) and receiving captions in Music and Percussion.
Arizona Percussive Arts Society Fall Festival
September 26, 2009
The drumline participated in the AzPAS Annual Fall Drumline Festival. The drumline received a rating of superior.

- Superior rating. He was also 1 of 3 soloist to play for the showcase at the end of the day (showcase people have the highest scores of the day).

The Wind Ensemble participated in the SCSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival at University High School in Irvine, California. They received a rating of superior from all judges. (A Unanimous Superior is similar to the ABODA Superior with Distinction; it is the highest rating a performing group can receive, and requires a superior rating in sight reading as well.)

All of the concert bands participated in ABODA Area Concert Festivals on February 26th and March 6th. The Concert Band I, Concert Band II, and the Symphonic Band received Excellent rating at their festivals. The Wind Ensemble received a Superior with Distinction, which means they received a Superior rating from all three judges.

The marching band participated in the ABODA Marching Festival on Saturday, November 8. The band received a rating of excellent, with captions for Auxillary and Percussion.
Golden State Classic Marching Band Competition
October 25, 2008
The marching band participated in the Golden State Classic Marching Band Competition. They placed second in Division 5A, with a score of 82.3; the Auxiliary placed first in Division 5A with a score of 89.8.
Loara Field Tournament
October 25, 2008
The marching band participated in the Loara Field Tournament and marched in exhibition. The band scored a 81.65 and the auxiliary scored a 65.7; they were not ranked because they marched in exhibition.
ASU Band Day
October 18, 2008
The marching band participated in the ASU Band Day. The band performed as part of the festival and received a rating of superior with distinction; the band received captions in Auxiliary, Music Performance, and Visual Performance. The band marched again in competition, coming in fifth place overall and receiving the caption for best Auxiliary.

Sounds Along The Santans Marching Band Competition
October 11, 2008
The marching band competed in the Sounds Along The Santans Marching Band Competition at Basha High. The band received a score of 75.6 and First Place in Division 1. The band also received the Auxillary, Percussion, and Visual Performance captions.
Arizona Percussive Arts Society 2008 Fall Festival of Marching Percussion

The percussion participated in the Arizona Percussive Arts Society 2008 Fall Festival of Marching Percussion on September 27, 2008. The drumline received an Excellent Rating for their performance. They received captions in Cymbals and Tenor Drums.

Lionhearts Invitational Marching Band Competition

The Marching Band competed in the Lionhearts Invitational Marching Band Competition at Mountain Pointe High School. The band took 2nd place in Division 1 with a score of 75.9 and received captions in Music Performance and Auxiliary.
WGAZ Guard Championships
April 19, 2008
The Winterguard finished their 2007-2008 season at the WGAZ Guard Championships on April 19th. They achieved a score of 87.7 and tied for third place overall.
Heritage Festival, San Diego California
Spring Tour, March 27-29
Wind Ensemble took 1st place in Division 3 (The highest division) and the Symphonic Band took 3rd in the same division. Highland High School won the overall best high school music program, which is awarded to a school that sent a band and a choir and that all performed well. The Wind Ensemble earned an extra award for scoring over 92 points in the judging. Jason Bauer received an award for his saxophone solo. In addition to the trophies, both bands were invited to compete in Nationals which is held in Los Angeles next year.

Bands of America Regional Championship at Flagstaff
November 4, 2007
The band competed in the BOA Regional Championship at Flagstaff on November 3. They performed well enough in the preliminary round to be one of the 10 bands chosen to compete again in the finals. Gilbert Marching Invitational
October 27, 2007
The band marched in the Gilbert Marching Invitational on October 27. The band received a score of 83.0 and 3rd place in Division I, 4th place overall. Our percussion was awarded the Division I Percussion Caption.
